Our Partner “Conservation Justice”, the first and only wildlife law enforcement NGO in Gabon and part of the LAGA (Last Great Ape Organization) family, conducted and facilitated an anti-trafficking operation at the Libreville airport (Gabon), with customs and the Forest Ministry.
In JUST 10 days and on ONLY a fraction of the suitcases, they found and confiscated several ivory items (32 bracelets, 2 necklaces, 8 hankos, 2 combs, pendants and cigarette holders), leopard teeth, 31 seahorses and more than 40 kg of shark fins.
The passengers who were trying to smuggle those items were mostly Chinese. Some of them even protested!

This operation gives an idea of what’s going on in airports and seaports in Africa and the Middle East.
